FEBRUARY 2013
Dear Friends and Supporters of El Rio,
El Rio’s proposal to the LAUSD Pilot School Office has not been selected to move forward as a public school within the District for the 2013-2014 school year. Although our application was commended for its student-centered philosophy and the connection to cultural relevancy in the learning program, a few areas need strengthening to help align it with District expectations. Happily, we can expect a continued productive collaboration with the District based on the feedback we received and we were encouraged to re-apply for the 2014-2015 school year.
We do not see this as the end of El Rio. We will continue our efforts to open an innovative public school in Northeast Los Angeles. We are already at work and will stay in touch through this web site. The play groups will take place and public meetings will go on as we continue to build our community.
We hope that you will continue to join us with your interest even as you search for the best available school for your child for the 2013-2014 school year.
We send our support and best wishes for all that you have done to help grow more of the kind of schools and education you want for your child or children – and all children – in Los Angeles.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email at elriocharter@gmail.com
Thank You,
The El Rio Schools Team
PS – for simplicity’s sake, we continue to use “el rio charter school” for now.
